Things that piss me off about the McCanns. 3

Why do they keep referring to anything to do with Madeleine in the past tense ?

An example :-
"We felt our actions were responsible. We were essentially performing our own baby listening service although we have talked of the guilt we felt at not being there at the moment Madeleine was taken."

Surely 'feel' should have been used in place of 'felt' ?
Or do they no longer feel any guilt for what was essentially they're fault ?

not being there at the moment Madeleine was taken

If they had been there Madeleine would NOT HAVE BEEN 'TAKEN'.
